The National Trust is a private, non-profit community-based organisation conserving Australia’s heritage. The trust movement began in New South Wales in 1945, but each state and territory later formed its own national trust. The Australian Council of National Trusts was formed as a co-ordinating body in 1965. They identify natural and built environments that are of heritage importance and worthy of preservation. They also own an extensive collection of artworks and artefacts, eight of these are featured in this stamp issue.

They include a Jules (Nicholas) Steiner doll from the 19th century, an x farmed Italian style chair from the 15–16th century, a Coalport plate (circa 1810) and mahogany Regency stye bracket clock (circa 1830), an ‘Advance Australia’ teapot (circa 1888) and a neo classical parian-ware figurine (1860s).
