This stamp issue commemorates the anniversary of Lions International. The International Association of Lions Club originated in the United States in 1917 with the idea that service to their fellow men without regard to politics, religion race of the personal interest of members.
The first Australian club was established by William R Tresise in Lismore, New South Wales in 1947. Since then it has expanded to 1300 clubs with over 30,00 members.
