1998 Australian Rock 'n' Roll The Early Years

Rock and Roll, a blend of rhythm and blues and country music was first made popular by Bill Haley in the 1954 with ‘Rock around the clock’. Film and tours by overseas artists inspired local acts such as Johnny O’Keefe and Coly Joye. Television programmes and magazines also help catapult its popularity in Australia. These stamps illustrate 12 hit singles by Australian artists celebrating the first 20 years of Australian rock ‘n’ roll.
