Land degradation is one of Australia’s most serious environmental problem. In response the 1990s was declared the Decade for Landcare. Landcare is a community not-for-profit organisation which involves local groups of volunteers from farmers to local community member who work together to repair the natural environment.

The stamps designed by artist John Wolseley, show the major land degradation problems and the sorts of action taken to develop more sustainable practices. This includes salt action, farm planning, erosion control, tree-planting, and dune care.
